“The Genesis Explosion” was a clear improvement over D.B.C.’s
earlier material, opening Universe with
a touch more Voivod-y flair. The
Canadian thrash act didn’t overtly ape their fellow countrymen, and the track
owed just as much to the Bay Area scene as Montreal. But there was a touch of prog and a little
less panic, especially in the lyrics.
This was one of the cooler records to come out of the Combat roster in
the late ‘80s, though apparently the label didn’t feel the same way and dropped
D.B.C. a couple years later once the thrash bubble burst. It was too bad, because “The Genesis
Explosion” had more personality and didn’t deserve to be written off so
quickly.
“Please - if I have ever made you cry, or made you one ounce sadder even for a second - forgive me. My perfect girl.” —Arthur Miller in a letter to Marilyn Monroe on April 30th, 1956.
